Renowned E-commerce Entrepreneur to Address
Attendees on Future of Internet Retailing
Speech Highlights BEAs Expanded Education Program
March 15, 2000, Norwalk, CT: BookExpo America (BEA), North Americas leading book industry trade convention has today announced that Jeff Bezos, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of the Internet retailing giant Amazon.com, has agreed to speak at this years convention. Mr. Bezos, Time Magazines Person of the Year in 99, is widely recognized as one of the digital ages greatest visionaries who has changed the face of retailing by his innovative use of the Internet as a "point and click" place to shop. Mr. Bezos speech caps a day of expanded education seminars at BEA. He will speak at 4:00pm in the Grand Ballroom on Thursday, June 1 at Chicagos McCormick Place Convention Center. Dates for this years BEA are June 2 - June 4, 2000.
"Jeff Bezos has transformed the face of retailing, not just in the book industry but throughout our economy," notes Courtney Muller, Show Manager and Industry Vice President for BEA. "He is widely recognized as a visionary whose actions have changed the way the world does business. One of our themes this year is technology and I cant think of anyone who represents the impact of technology on the book industry more than Jeff Bezos. We are very pleased that he is taking time to address our convention attendees."Mr. Bezos will discuss how he developed Internet retailing by using books as his model, and he will talk about his many views of retailing, marketing, and what we must do to accommodate an intelligent, and increasingly technologically savvy consumer. There will be a short Q & A at the conclusion of his speech. "BEA has worked hard over the past two years to expand its education program to reflect how much technology has affected the book industry," concludes Muller. "Jeff Bezos appearance at BEA is a great validation of our efforts. Its not often that we are able to play host to someone who has had such a profound effect on the way we do business."
There will be two days of education at the convention that will include, among other things, the following seminars on technology: Making the Online Rights Marketplace Work for You (an ongoing tutorial jointly sponsored by BEA in association with rightscenter.com); Standards for Managing Digital Content; The Impact of Digital Printing on the Ecology of Publishing; ePublishing Today: The Mainstreaming of Digital Distribution and Its Hierarchical Impact; Production Issues for ePublishing and Digital Channels; E-Business for E-Publishing; Digital Rights Management Solutions - Unlocking e-Commerce Riches; Syndicating Digital Content; Libraries: In Search of a Digital Lending Model.
